A Lack of Understanding, Says CEJUEGO

The recent ban on opening new gambling venues in Barcelona has caused quite a stir this week. In response, the industry wasted no time in criticizing the decision. Alejandro Landaluce, the Director General of CEJUEGO, believes that this ban is a result of a lack of understanding.

Landaluce didn't hold back when expressing his opinion on the matter. "They want to ban something that is already regulated in this city," he exclaimed. "Barcelona is one of the autonomous communities in Spain with the strictest limits on the number of gambling establishments."

He added, "We support proper planning of gambling establishments and are willing to engage in dialogue with the authorities and society regarding their concerns. We believe that through dialogue, we can achieve a controlled and sustainable development of the sector."

Moreover, CEJUEGO emphasizes that gambling is not currently a public health issue, despite the claims made this morning. According to data from the Spanish Observatory of Drugs and Addictions (OEDA) and the National Government Delegation for the National Plan on Drugs (DGPNSD), the rate of problem gambling in Spain is only 0.3%.

CEJUEGO reminds everyone that gambling, both public and private, is a completely legalized and normalized activity in Spanish society. It is seen as part of leisure and entertainment, and it is practiced responsibly and within the boundaries of individual freedom. A staggering 75% of the adult population regularly partakes in gambling, with 97.7% experiencing no issues whatsoever.
